Price Dynamics. The Hydroxylamine Sulfate price in United States decreased during September 2018 to 2,620 USD per metric ton, which represents a slight decline of 3% compared to the previous month’s value. About Hydroxylamine Sulfate. Hydroxylamine Sulfate is the sulfuric acid salt of Hydroxylamine and a water-soluble crystal that, in an aqueous solution, gives a clear and colorless liquid with acid properties. When heated, it decomposes, releasing sulfur dioxide, nitrous oxide, water, and ammonium sulfate. The sulfate form can act as a more stable version of the pure Hydroxylamine, and reactions in alkali media can easily undo the salt form. It is mainly used as an intermediate and oxidant agent, highlighting caprolactam production. The production usually has Nitrogen oxidated compounds as raw material, and a reduction reaction is applied to achieve the product. In the Raschig Process, the first one used for industrial purposes, ammonium carbonate reacts with nitrogen oxides to achieve ammonium nitrite, which is further converted to Hydroxylamine Sulfate after a reaction with sulfur dioxide, ammonia, and water.
Solutions of Hydroxylamine Sulfate can be stored at up to 40 ºC and its crystals below 45 ºC in a well-closed stainless steel or polyethylene container, protected from moisture and contact with heavy metals in powder or salt form, oxidants, and alkali must be avoided. Aqueous solutions are used and shipped in vehicles with tanks, the crystal form, packed in polyethylene sacks.

Hydroxylamine Sulfate is largely used as an intermediate and more stable form of Hydroxylamine and an important intermediate in the production of caprolactam and cyclohexanone oxime, those uses achieving more than 95% of all production. It is also used as an oxidant agent in several other processes. Other uses are: as a reactant for the production of other oximes in the Chemical Industry; as anticreaming agent; in the production of antibiotics, steroids, tranquilizers, spasmolytics, and antitubercular drugs; as an additive for color emulsions in photography; as a regulator in the polymerization of synthetic rubber, as an antioxidant for natural rubber and as an accelerator for the vulcanization of synthetic rubber; as regulator and inhibitor in various polymerizations; as an additive for surface treatment of steel and as a flotation agent for copper ores, among others.
