Aluminum Hydroxide (a.k.a. Hydrated Alumina, Alumina Trihydrate) is a compound produced primarilly from bauxite, a sedimentary rock rich in aluminum. Most of the aluminum hydroxide produced is calcined and used for aluminum metal production. It is also used in the manufacture of other aluminum compounds (e.g. specialty calcined aluminas, aluminum sulfate, polyaluminum chloride, aluminum chloride, zeolites), as fire retardant filler for polymer applications and as antacid (neutralizes stomach acidity).
