Vinyl Acetate Monomer
Vinyl Acetate (a.k.a. VAM, Vinyl Acetate Monomer, Ethenyl Acetate) is an organic compound, an important vinyl ester, used in the manufacture of many polymers and resins. It is a colorless liquid with a sweet, fruity smell, soluble in most organic solvents, but only slightly soluble in water. On an industrial scale, the dominant production route of Vinyl Acetate is based on the reaction of ethylene with acetic acid and oxygen in the gas phase on heterogeneous catalysts containing palladium.
The uses and applications of Vinyl Acetate may vary according to its specification. The different forms of vinyl acetate differ mainly in the inhibitor used during storage, the main ones being grade A (99.8%, diphenylamine inhibited, suited for long term storage); and grade H (99.8%, hydroquinone inhibited, for shorter storage).

Updated Reports Examining Vinyl Acetate Manufacturing Costs

Intratec offers professional, easy-to-understand Commodity Cost of Production reports analyzing the costs of Vinyl Acetate manufacturing processes. Each report describes an industrial plant based on a specific Vinyl Acetate process. The report also presents an independent analysis of the costs of Vinyl Acetate production, encompassing plant capital costs (capex) and plant operating costs (opex). All reports are based on the most recent economic data available (Q1 2024).

Vinyl Acetate Production from Acetic Acid and Ethylene

This study presents the economics of Vinyl Acetate production from acetic acid and ethylene in the United States, via a typical vapor-phase oxidation process. In this process, vapor acetic acid, ethylene and oxygen react in a catalytic multi-tube reactor, producing Vinyl Acetate, which is further purified.

Details: 350 kta United States-based plant   |   Q1 2024   |   107 pages   From $799 USD

The cost analyses presented in the report VAM E11A target a 350 kta (kilometric tons per annum) United States-based plant. For those interested in cost analyses considering other plant capacities and/or locations, Intratec offers a customized analysis as an optional feature.

Vinyl Acetate Production from Acetic Acid and Acetylene

This feasibility study examines the economics of a process producing Vinyl Acetate from acetic acid and acetylene. In the process examined, acetic acid and acetylene react in the vapor phase in the presence of a supported metal catalyst to produce vinyl acetate. The economic analysis performed is based on a plant constructed in the United States.

Details: 180 kta United States-based plant   |   Q1 2024   |   107 pages   From $799 USD

The cost analyses presented in the report VAM E21A target a 180 kta (kilometric tons per annum) United States-based plant. For those interested in cost analyses considering other plant capacities and/or locations, Intratec offers a customized analysis as an optional feature.

Intratec Methodology. Intratec distilled its expertise, gained from more than a decade of supporting companies worldwide in the analysis of commodities markets and process economics, and developed a consistent report development methodology.

The methodology ensures a holistic, coherent, and consistent techno-economic evaluation, guiding the development of a report that allows readers to fully understand a specific process technology for the production of a commodity. In addition to being based on a common methodology, all Intratec reports that approach industrial processes have a common structure, i.e., indexes, tables and charts share similar standards. This ensures that Intratec’s readers know upfront what they will get and, more than that, will be able to compare technologies addressed in different reports.

Our methodology is continuously tested and proven by the many corporations involved with the commodities sector, R&D centers, EPC companies, financial institutions and government agencies that rely on our reports.
