Sodium Chlorate
Sodium Chlorate (a.k.a. Chlorate of Soda) is an inorganic salt, with colorless crystals, odorless and cooling/saline taste, soluble in water and most organic solvents. For its high oxidizing power, sodium chlorate is hardly found in nature. Its first uses date to the beginning of the twentieth century; however, it only began being industrially produced by the end of the 1960s. Chlorate of Soda main uses derive from its oxidizing characteristics, and its main application is as a bleaching agent in a variety of processes.

Sodium Chlorite Production from Sodium Chlorate

This report presents the economics of Sodium Chlorite production from sodium chlorate, sodium hydroxide, and hydrogen peroxide. Initially, chlorine dioxide gas is obtained from sodium chlorate via a sulfuric acid-based reduction with sulfur dioxide as reduction agent. Then, this gas is absorbed into a solution of sodium hydroxide and hydrogen peroxide, yielding sodium chlorite. The economic analysis is based on a plant located in the United States.
