This report presents an up-to-date, detailed cost analysis of Amoxicillin Trihydrate production from D(-)p-hydroxyphenylglycine and 6-APA. The process examined is a conventional chemical synthesis (via the Dane salt route). In this process, first there is the condensation of D(-)p-hydroxyphenylglycine with ethylacetoacetate and precipitation of the Dane salt (ethyl potassium) with alkali. Subsequently, the Dane salt reacts with pivaloyl chloride to form a mixed anhydride complex, which is reacted with 6-APA yielding Amoxicillin Trihydrate.
