Propionaldehyde
Propanal
Propionaldehyde (a.k.a. Propanal) is a low-boiling, colorless, flammable liquid with a sharp, suffocating odor. It is found in vegetables such as onions, in cheese and other dairy products, and as an active ingredient in coffee beans, contributing to the aroma of coffee. Propionaldehyde is highly reactive, and is employed primarily as a chemical intermediate to prepare C3 and C6 compounds. It is generally produced by hydroformylation of ethylene. It is completely miscible with organic solvents such as alcohols, ether, and benzene, while its solubility in water decreases at elevated temperature.
Propionaldehyde is used mainly as starting material for a number of organic compounds. Minor applications of this chemical include its use as a disinfectant, preservative, rubber additive, and corrosion inhibitor.

Updated Reports Examining Propionaldehyde Manufacturing Costs

Intratec offers professional, easy-to-understand Commodity Cost of Production reports analyzing the costs of Propionaldehyde manufacturing processes. Each report describes an industrial plant based on a specific Propionaldehyde process. The report also presents an independent analysis of the costs of Propionaldehyde production, encompassing plant capital costs (capex) and plant operating costs (opex). All reports are based on the most recent economic data available (Q4 2023).

Propionaldehyde Production

This report presents the economic analysis of Propionaldehyde production from ethylene. In this process, ethylene undergoes a hydroformylation reaction to produce propionaldehyde. The economic analysis presented is based on a plant constructed in the United States.

Intratec Methodology. Intratec distilled its expertise, gained from more than a decade of supporting companies worldwide in the analysis of commodities markets and process economics, and developed a consistent report development methodology.

The methodology ensures a holistic, coherent, and consistent techno-economic evaluation, guiding the development of a report that allows readers to fully understand a specific process technology for the production of a commodity. In addition to being based on a common methodology, all Intratec reports that approach industrial processes have a common structure, i.e., indexes, tables and charts share similar standards. This ensures that Intratec’s readers know upfront what they will get and, more than that, will be able to compare technologies addressed in different reports.

Our methodology is continuously tested and proven by the many corporations involved with the commodities sector, R&D centers, EPC companies, financial institutions and government agencies that rely on our reports.
