About Phenol. Phenol (a.k.a. Carbolic Acid, Benzenol) is an organic compound. It is found as a white, crystalline solid with a characteristic odor and burning taste. It is very soluble in alcohol, ether, benzene and chloroform. The solubility in water is limited below 65°C. Above this temperature, phenol and water are miscible.
