Pentaerythritol (a.k.a. PER) is an organic compound in the polyol class. It is an odorless white solid, with four hydroxyl groups in its structure, allowing the attachment of four groups (similar or not), and, hence, the synthesis of greatly branched compounds/structures. For this characteristic, pentaerythritol and its derivatives have a wide variety of applications.
The uses and applications of Pentaerythritol may vary according to its specification. The main forms of Pentaerythritol are technical grade (88% monopentaerythritol and 12% dipentaerythritol); nitration grade (minimum 98.7% monopentaerythritol); and chemically pure grade (CP, minimum 98% monopentaerythritol).
