Methylene Diphenyl Diisocyanate Production Costs - Q4 2022
Methylene Diphenyl Diisocyanate Operating Costs & Plants Capital Investment
Methylene Diphenyl Diisocyanate (a.k.a. MDI) is an aromatic diisocyanate widely applied in the production of polyurethanes. It is produced by the reaction of aniline and formaldehyde, using hydrochloric acid as catalyst, yielding diamine precursors, which are then treated with phosgene, resulting in MDI. It appears as a light-yellow, fused solid, which is soluble in acetone, benzene, kerosene, and nitrobenzene.
Intratec offers professional, easy-to-understand reports examining Methylene Diphenyl Diisocyanate production costs. Each study describes an industrial plant, including main process units and site infrastructure, and presents an independent analysis of capital and operating costs. All reports are based on the most recent economic data available (Q4 2022).
MDI Production from Aniline (Carbonylation Process)
This report presents the economics of Methylene Diphenyl Diisocyanate (MDI) production from aniline and formaldehyde using a typical oxidative carbonylation process located in the USA. In this process, aniline undergoes oxidative carbonylation to give ethyl phenylcarbamate (EPC). Then, the EPC reacts with formaldehyde to form diphenylene diurethane (MDU). Finally, MDU is thermally decomposed to MDI.
Details: 50 kta United States-based plant | Q4 2022 | 107 pages From $1,199 USD
The cost analyses presented in the report MDI E11A target a 50 kta (kilometric tons per annum) United States-based plant. For those interested in cost analyses considering other plant capacities and/or locations, Intratec offers a customized analysis as an optional feature.
MDI Production from Aniline (Phosgenation Process)
This study presents the costs associated with the construction of a plant producing MDI from aniline and formaldehyde in the USA. In this study aniline reacts with formaldehyde to form a mixture of diphenyl methane diamine and polymeric amines. Then, this mixture reacts with phosgene to produce MDI and polymeric MDI. The phosgene used is generated from chlorine in an on-site unit.
