LAB
Linear Alkylbenzene (a.k.a. LAB) refers to a group of organic compounds with a benzene "head" followed by a tail of linear chain with 10 to 16 carbons. LABs are obtained from n-paraffins and benzene. n-Paraffins are a product of jet kerosene hydrotreating, which are dehydrogenated to linear olefins, that are reacted with benzene in the presence of a catalyst, namely HF or AlCl3. LABs are a major raw material in the manufacture of linear alkylbenzene sulfonate (LAS), the most used surfactant available for use in biodegradable household detergent formulations.

Updated Reports Examining Linear Alkylbenzene Manufacturing Costs

Intratec offers professional, easy-to-understand Commodity Cost of Production reports analyzing the costs of Linear Alkylbenzene manufacturing processes. Each report describes an industrial plant based on a specific Linear Alkylbenzene process. The report also presents an independent analysis of the costs of Linear Alkylbenzene production, encompassing plant capital costs (capex) and plant operating costs (opex). All reports are based on the most recent economic data available (Q1 2024).

Linear Alkylbenzene Production

This report presents the economics of a Linear Alkylbenzene (LAB) production process from C10-C13 n-paraffins and benzene in the United States, via a typical hydrogenation/alkylation process. In the process examined, the C10-C13 n-paraffins are dehydrogenated to their respectives olefins, which are further alkylated with benzene to produce LAB.

Benzene Production from Reformate

This report presents the economics of Benzene production from reformate in the United States using a typical sulfolane liquid-liquid extraction process. The solvents extracts first the aromatics from the reformate. The aromatics are then stripped and separated into benzene, toluene and mixed xylenes.

The cost analyses presented in the report Benzene E21A target a 350 kta (kilometric tons per annum) United States-based plant. For those interested in cost analyses considering other plant capacities and/or locations, Intratec offers a customized analysis as an optional feature.

Benzene from Toluene (Hydrodealkylation with Methane Production)

This report presents the economics of Benzene production from toluene in the United States. The process reviewed in this study is a typical toluene hydrodealkylation (THDA) process. In this process, the alkyl group is removed from toluene by hydrogen in the form of methane, producing Benzene.

The cost analyses presented in the report Benzene E32A target a 450 kta (kilometric tons per annum) United States-based plant. For those interested in cost analyses considering other plant capacities and/or locations, Intratec offers a customized analysis as an optional feature.

C4 to C18+ Linear Alpha Olefins Production

This feasibility study presents an economic analysis of Linear Alpha Olefins (LAO) production from ethylene in the United States. The process presented is similar to Shell Higher Olefins Process (SHOP) in which LAOs ranging from C4 to C18 are obtained. This process comprises three steps: oligomerization, isomerization and disproportionation.

Intratec Methodology. Intratec distilled its expertise, gained from more than a decade of supporting companies worldwide in the analysis of commodities markets and process economics, and developed a consistent report development methodology.

The methodology ensures a holistic, coherent, and consistent techno-economic evaluation, guiding the development of a report that allows readers to fully understand a specific process technology for the production of a commodity. In addition to being based on a common methodology, all Intratec reports that approach industrial processes have a common structure, i.e., indexes, tables and charts share similar standards. This ensures that Intratec’s readers know upfront what they will get and, more than that, will be able to compare technologies addressed in different reports.

Our methodology is continuously tested and proven by the many corporations involved with the commodities sector, R&D centers, EPC companies, financial institutions and government agencies that rely on our reports.
