Isononanol
Isononyl Alcohol
Isononanol (a.k.a. isononyl alcohol) is generally a mixture of aliphatic, branched alcohol isomers of molecular formula C9H20O. It is included in the group of plasticizer alcohols, which includes mostly branched aliphatic alcohols with chain length ranging from 6 to 13 carbons (e.g. 2-Ethylhexanol, the major plasticizer alcohol in the world). The mixture of Isononanol isomers usually includes methyloctanols, ethylheptanols and propylhexanols, as well as dimethylheptanols and trimethylhexanols. The presence and the amounts of each aforementioned compounds is dependent on the feed and catalyst employed in the production process.
The uses and applications of Isononanol may vary according to its specification. The main forms of Isononanol are technical grade; pharmaceutical grade; and food grade.

Updated Reports Examining Isononanol Manufacturing Costs

Intratec offers professional, easy-to-understand Commodity Cost of Production reports analyzing the costs of Isononanol manufacturing processes. Each report describes an industrial plant based on a specific Isononanol process. The report also presents an independent analysis of the costs of Isononanol production, encompassing plant capital costs (capex) and plant operating costs (opex). All reports are based on the most recent economic data available (Q1 2024).

Isononanol Production from Octenes (Rhodium Catalyst)

This report presents an economic study of Isononanol production from octenes in the presence of a rhodium catalyst. It assumes a plant located in the United States using a process similar to Johnson Matthey OXO alcohols process. Initially, octenes are submitted to hydroformylation to form the respectives C9 aldehydes. The aldehydes are then hydrogenated to the corresponding C9 alcohols.

Details: 220 kta United States-based plant   |   Q1 2024   |   109 pages   From $799 USD

The cost analyses presented in the report Isononanol E11A target a 220 kta (kilometric tons per annum) United States-based plant. For those interested in cost analyses considering other plant capacities and/or locations, Intratec offers a customized analysis as an optional feature.

Isononanol Production from Octenes (Cobalt Catalyst)

In this report, the economics of Isononanol production from octenes is analyzed based on a typical cobalt catalyst process, assuming a plant located in the United States. Initially, octenes are submitted to hydroformylation to form the respectives C9 aldehydes. The aldehydes are then hydrogenated to the corresponding C9 alcohols.

Intratec Methodology. Intratec distilled its expertise, gained from more than a decade of supporting companies worldwide in the analysis of commodities markets and process economics, and developed a consistent report development methodology.

The methodology ensures a holistic, coherent, and consistent techno-economic evaluation, guiding the development of a report that allows readers to fully understand a specific process technology for the production of a commodity. In addition to being based on a common methodology, all Intratec reports that approach industrial processes have a common structure, i.e., indexes, tables and charts share similar standards. This ensures that Intratec’s readers know upfront what they will get and, more than that, will be able to compare technologies addressed in different reports.

Our methodology is continuously tested and proven by the many corporations involved with the commodities sector, R&D centers, EPC companies, financial institutions and government agencies that rely on our reports.
