This report presents an up-to-date, detailed cost analysis of Hydrogen production from vacuum residue. The process examined is a typical non-catalytic partial oxidation process. In this plant, vaccum residue, the bottom product of a vaccum distillation unit, is submitted to a gasification, producing synthesis gas (a mixture of gases mainly composed of Hydrogen and carbon monoxide). This syngas is further reacted with water in a carbon monoxide shift step to increase Hydrogen yield. Hydrogen and a high concentration carbon monoxide stream are generated.
