Hydrochloric Acid from NaCl and Sulfuric Acid (Fluidized Bed Reactor)
This report presents the economics of Hydrochloric Acid (HCl) production from sodium chloride and sulfuric acid in the United States . In this process, sulfuric acid reacts with sodium chloride in a fluidized bed reactor, forming hydrogen chloride and sodium sulfate, a by-product. Subsequently, the gas is absorbed in water and Hydrochloric Acid is obtained as the final product.

Hydrochloric Acid Production from Sodium Chloride and Sulfur
Feasibility analysis of a typical Hargreaves process for Hydrochloric Acid production from sodium chloride and sulfur in the USA. In this process, first sulfur is subjected to an oxidation reaction producing sulfur dioxide. Sulfur dioxide and sodium chloride are then heated up to the point in which they start a spontaneous and exothermic reaction that produces hydrogen chloride, which is subsequently absorbed in water to produce Hydrochloric Acid as the final product. Sodium sulfate is generated as a by-product.
Details: 15 kta United States-based plant | Q1 2024 | 107 pages From $799 USD
The cost analyses presented in the report HCl E31A target a 15 kta (kilometric tons per annum) United States-based plant. For those interested in cost analyses considering other plant capacities and/or locations, Intratec offers a customized analysis as an optional feature.
Hydrogen Chloride Production from Polyvinyl Chloride Waste
This study approaches the economics of gaseous Hydrogen Chloride (HCl) production from polyvinyl chloride (PVC) waste in the United States. The process under analysis is a pyrolysis conducted in two continuous reactors. Initially, HCl and chlorinated hydrocarbons (Cl-HCs) are removed from the plastic in the first reactor and HCl is purified. The plastic is then sent to a second reactor to finish pyrolysis and, finally, the pyrolysis gases are directed to distillation to produce benzene and fuel oil as by-products
Details: 2 kta United States-based plant | Q1 2024 | 107 pages From $999 USD
The cost analyses presented in the report HCl E41A target a 2 kta (kilometric tons per annum) United States-based plant. For those interested in cost analyses considering other plant capacities and/or locations, Intratec offers a customized analysis as an optional feature.
Hydrochloric Acid Production from Hydrogen and Chlorine
This study analysis the economics of Hydrochloric Acid (HCl) production from hydrogen and chlorine in the United States. The process examined is a typical synthesis of Hydrogen Chloride via the direct reaction of the elements. In this process, hydrogen and chlorine, undergo a direct reaction forming hydrogen chloride, which is subsequently passed through an absorber to produce a 35 wt% hydrochloric acid as final product.
Details: 60 kta United States-based plant | Q1 2024 | 107 pages From $799 USD
The cost analyses presented in the report HCl E51A target a 60 kta (kilometric tons per annum) United States-based plant. For those interested in cost analyses considering other plant capacities and/or locations, Intratec offers a customized analysis as an optional feature.
Hydrochloric Acid from Sodium Chloride (Sodium Hydroxide as Co-Product)
This report presents the economics of Hydrochloric Acid production via an integrated plant comprising: 1) a typical chlor-alkali electrolysis process using membrane cells; and 2) the production of Hydrochloric Acid from hydrogen and chlorine. A 35 wt% Hydrochloric Acid solution is obtained as the final product and 50 wt% caustic soda is obtained as co-product in this process. The analysis is based on plant located in the United States.

About Hydrochloric Acid. Hydrochloric Acid (a.k.a. HCl, Hydrogen Chloride, Muriatic Acid) is a hydrogen halide and one of the most important basic industrial chemicals. It is a colorless gas, which forms white fumes upon contact with atmospheric water. Due to the high electronegativity of the chlorine atom, this molecule has a large dipole moment, and is very soluble in water and other polar solvents. Its solutions with water receive the name "Hydrochloric Acid", a strong acid with corrosive properties. Production of Hydrogen Chloride follows the chlor-alkali electrolytic process, where brine is electrolyzed producing chlorine gas and hydrogen gas. These gases are then combined in the presence of UV light, resulting in HCl.
Intratec Methodology. Intratec distilled its expertise, gained from more than a decade of supporting companies worldwide in the analysis of commodities markets and process economics, and developed a consistent report development methodology.
The methodology ensures a holistic, coherent, and consistent techno-economic evaluation, guiding the development of a report that allows readers to fully understand a specific process technology for the production of a commodity. In addition to being based on a common methodology, all Intratec reports that approach industrial processes have a common structure, i.e., indexes, tables and charts share similar standards. This ensures that Intratec’s readers know upfront what they will get and, more than that, will be able to compare technologies addressed in different reports.
Our methodology is continuously tested and proven by the many corporations involved with the commodities sector, R&D centers, EPC companies, financial institutions and government agencies that rely on our reports.
