Ethylhexanol ranks, after the lighter alcohols (methanol to butanol), as the most important synthetic alcohol. It is an eight-carbon branched chain alcohol and appears as a clear, colorless liquid, with a characteristic odor. It is an organic solvent miscible in almost all organic solvents and practically insoluble in water and one of the most important oxo alcohols commercialized.
Typically, Ethylhexanol is commercialized in a high-pure grade, with a 99.5 wt% minimum purity.

Updated Reports Examining Ethylhexanol Manufacturing Costs

Intratec offers professional, easy-to-understand Commodity Cost of Production reports analyzing the costs of Ethylhexanol manufacturing processes. Each report describes an industrial plant based on a specific Ethylhexanol process. The report also presents an independent analysis of the costs of Ethylhexanol production, encompassing plant capital costs (capex) and plant operating costs (opex). All reports are based on the most recent economic data available (Q2 2024).

2-Ethylhexanol Production from Propylene and Syngas

This report presents the economics of 2-Ethylhexanol (2-EH) production from propylene and syngas located in the United States. Initially, propylene reacts with syngas in a hydroformylation reaction, yielding n-butyraldehyde. This step uses a conventional OXO-alcohol technology. Then, the n-butyraldehyde is submitted to an aldolization, and is subsequently dehydrated to 2-ethylpropylacrolein (EPA). Finally, the EPA is hydrogenated, yielding 2-EH.

Details: 160 kta United States-based plant   |   Q2 2024   |   107 pages   From $1,199 USD

The cost analyses presented in the report 2-EH E11A target a 160 kta (kilometric tons per annum) United States-based plant. For those interested in cost analyses considering other plant capacities and/or locations, Intratec offers a customized analysis as an optional feature.

2-Ethylhexanol Production from Butyraldehyde

This report presents the economics of 2-Ethylhexanol (2-EH) production from n-butyraldehyde. The process under analysis dehydrates n-butyraldehyde to obtain 2-ethylpropylacrolein, which is then hydrogenated to form the 2-Ethylhexanol. The economic assessment assumes a plant located in the United States.

Intratec Methodology. Intratec distilled its expertise, gained from more than a decade of supporting companies worldwide in the analysis of commodities markets and process economics, and developed a consistent report development methodology.

The methodology ensures a holistic, coherent, and consistent techno-economic evaluation, guiding the development of a report that allows readers to fully understand a specific process technology for the production of a commodity. In addition to being based on a common methodology, all Intratec reports that approach industrial processes have a common structure, i.e., indexes, tables and charts share similar standards. This ensures that Intratec’s readers know upfront what they will get and, more than that, will be able to compare technologies addressed in different reports.

Our methodology is continuously tested and proven by the many corporations involved with the commodities sector, R&D centers, EPC companies, financial institutions and government agencies that rely on our reports.
