Ethylene Vinyl Acetate (a.k.a. EVA) is the copolymer of ethylene and vinyl acetate. EVA properties vary depending on the comonomers contents. Vinyl acetate increases gas permeability, impact strength, crystallinity, coefficient of friction and optical qualities. Meanwhile, higher ethylene content increases sealing temperature, stiffness and surface hardness. As a thermoplastic, EVA is capable of melting and flowing (in a reversible physical transformation) when subjected to increases in temperature and pressure, assuming a specified form when those conditions cease. Exhibiting properties like good toughness, flexibility, clarity and gloss, this thermoplastic material is one of the most important poly(vinyl esters).
