Diethyl Sulfate
Diethyl Sulfate is an one of the most commercially important dialkyl sulfates, and appears as highly toxic colorless, corrosive, oily liquid that darkens with age and has a faint peppermint odor. It is a possible mutagen and is anticipated to be a human carcinogen based on evidence of carcinogenicity in experimental animals, and may be associated with developing laryngeal cancer. Diethyl Sulfate can manufactured by addition of sulfur trioxide to dimethyl ether, by addition of sulfuric acid to diethyl ether or ethanol, and from ethanol and sulfuryl chloride. Diethyl Sulfate is used as an alkylating agent, as an accelerator in the sulfation of ethylene and in some sulfonation reactios, and in the preparation of ethyl derivatives of amines, phenols, and thiols.
The uses and applications of Diethyl Sulfate may vary according to its specification. The main forms of Diethyl Sulfate are technical grade (99.5% purity); laboratory grade (95% to > 98% purity).

Updated Reports Examining Diethyl Sulfate Manufacturing Costs

Intratec offers professional, easy-to-understand Commodity Cost of Production reports analyzing the costs of Diethyl Sulfate manufacturing processes. Each report describes an industrial plant based on a specific Diethyl Sulfate process. The report also presents an independent analysis of the costs of Diethyl Sulfate production, encompassing plant capital costs (capex) and plant operating costs (opex). All reports are based on the most recent economic data available (Q1 2024).

Diethyl Sulfate Production

This report analyses the economics of a Diethyl Sulfate production process from rectified spirit and chlorosulfonic acid in the United States. In this process, absolute alcohol and chlorosulfonic acid are reacted at sub-zero temperatures, producing ethylsulfuric acid. This acid is then distilled under vacuum with anhydrous sodium sulfate, yielding diethyl sulfate,

Intratec Methodology. Intratec distilled its expertise, gained from more than a decade of supporting companies worldwide in the analysis of commodities markets and process economics, and developed a consistent report development methodology.

The methodology ensures a holistic, coherent, and consistent techno-economic evaluation, guiding the development of a report that allows readers to fully understand a specific process technology for the production of a commodity. In addition to being based on a common methodology, all Intratec reports that approach industrial processes have a common structure, i.e., indexes, tables and charts share similar standards. This ensures that Intratec’s readers know upfront what they will get and, more than that, will be able to compare technologies addressed in different reports.

Our methodology is continuously tested and proven by the many corporations involved with the commodities sector, R&D centers, EPC companies, financial institutions and government agencies that rely on our reports.
