About Cyclododecanone. Cyclododecanone is a cyclic ketone that, at room temperature, appears as colorless crystals that are soluble in organic solvents, but insoluble in water. It reacts like an aliphatic ketone. Cyclododecanone is produced by oxidation of cyclododecane with air, in the presence of boric acid catalyst. This reaction also forms cyclododecanol as by-product. The mixture produced can be dehydrogenated in the presence of copper or copper-chromium catalyst on an active support, yielding pure cyclododecanone.
