Chloroprene Cost of Production | Q1 2024
Updated Reports Examining Chloroprene Manufacturing Costs
Intratec offers professional, easy-to-understand Commodity Cost of Production reports analyzing the costs of Chloroprene manufacturing processes. Each report describes an industrial plant based on a specific Chloroprene process. The report also presents an independent analysis of the costs of Chloroprene production, encompassing plant capital costs (capex) and plant operating costs (opex). All reports are based on the most recent economic data available (Q1 2024).
Chloroprene Production from Butadiene
This report analyses the economics of Chloroprene production from butadiene and chlorine in the United States, via a typical vapor phase butadiene chlorination process. Initially, butadiene is first chlorinated producing two isomers, 1,4-dichloro-2-butene and 3,4-dichloro-1-butene. Then, 1,4-isomers are isomerized to 3,4 isomer. This chemical is finally dehydrochlorinated in the presence of caustic soda producing chloroprene.
Details: 40 kta United States-based plant | Q1 2024 | 107 pages From $999 USD
The cost analyses presented in the report Chloroprene E11A target a 40 kta (kilometric tons per annum) United States-based plant. For those interested in cost analyses considering other plant capacities and/or locations, Intratec offers a customized analysis as an optional feature.
Chloroprene Production from Acetylene
This report presents the economics of Chloroprene production from acetylene and hydrogen chloride in the United States. In the process examined, acetylene is dimerized to monovinyl acetylene (MVA), which is then reacted with hydrogen chloride to generate a chloroallene intermediate. Finally the chloroallene is rearranged to Chloroprene.

About Chloroprene. Chloroprene is one of the most important chlorobutene produced on industrial scale, mainly for its use as monomer for the production of polychloroprene (synthetic rubber), which is a versatile polymer employed in a number of applications. Chloroprene is a colorless, highly reactive liquid which undegoes substantial dimerization at room temperature. Its production comprises three steps: (1) Vapor phase chlorination of butadiene to a mixture of 3,4-dichloro-1-butene and 1,4-dichloro-2-butene; (2) Catalytic isomerization of 1,4-dichloro-2-butene to 3,4-dichloro-1-butene; and (3) Dehydrochlorination of 3,4-dichloro-1-butene with alkali to chloroprene.
Chloroprene Uses. The uses and applications of Chloroprene may vary according to its specification. The main forms of Chloroprene are industrial grade.
Intratec Methodology. Intratec distilled its expertise, gained from more than a decade of supporting companies worldwide in the analysis of commodities markets and process economics, and developed a consistent report development methodology.
The methodology ensures a holistic, coherent, and consistent techno-economic evaluation, guiding the development of a report that allows readers to fully understand a specific process technology for the production of a commodity. In addition to being based on a common methodology, all Intratec reports that approach industrial processes have a common structure, i.e., indexes, tables and charts share similar standards. This ensures that Intratec’s readers know upfront what they will get and, more than that, will be able to compare technologies addressed in different reports.
Our methodology is continuously tested and proven by the many corporations involved with the commodities sector, R&D centers, EPC companies, financial institutions and government agencies that rely on our reports.
