Ammonium Nitrate
AN
Ammonium Nitrate (a.k.a. AN) is an inorganic salt with colorless and odorless crystals that are soluble in most organic solvents. The salt is hardly found in nature, for its high water solubility. It was first described in 1659 and, currently, is the most commercially important ammonium compound in production volume and usage terms. Its great importance comes from the fact that the salt incorporates nitrogen and makes it readily available, in both of the forms that plants and crops use: nitrate ion and ammonia.
The uses and applications of Ammonium Nitrate may vary according to its specification. The main forms of Ammonium Nitrate are 20.5% nitrogen; 33.5% nitrogen; fertilizer grade; 83% aqueous solution; and temperature stabilized grade.

Updated Reports Examining Ammonium Nitrate Manufacturing Costs

Intratec offers professional, easy-to-understand Commodity Cost of Production reports analyzing the costs of Ammonium Nitrate manufacturing processes. Each report describes an industrial plant based on a specific Ammonium Nitrate process. The report also presents an independent analysis of the costs of Ammonium Nitrate production, encompassing plant capital costs (capex) and plant operating costs (opex). All reports are based on the most recent economic data available (Q1 2024).

Ammonium Nitrate Solution Production

This report presents the economics of a typical neutralization under vacuum process for the production of Ammonium Nitrate solution. The study examines a plant located in the United States using gaseous ammonia and nitric acid as raw materials.

Details: 900 kta United States-based plant   |   Q1 2024   |   107 pages   From $999 USD

The cost analyses presented in the report Ammonium Nitrate E11A target a 900 kta (kilometric tons per annum) United States-based plant. For those interested in cost analyses considering other plant capacities and/or locations, Intratec offers a customized analysis as an optional feature.

Ammonium Nitrate Porous Prills Production

In this study, the production costs of Ammonium Nitrate porous prills (AN-PP) are reviewed. The process examined is a typical vacuum neutralization process using ammonia and nitric acid for ammonium nitrate production. It is then evaporated and transformed into AN-PP. The economic analysis presented assumes a plant constructed in the United States.

Details: 400 kta United States-based plant   |   Q1 2024   |   107 pages   From $799 USD

The cost analyses presented in the report Ammonium Nitrate E21A target a 400 kta (kilometric tons per annum) United States-based plant. For those interested in cost analyses considering other plant capacities and/or locations, Intratec offers a customized analysis as an optional feature.

Granulated Ammonium Nitrate Production

This report presents the economics of a plant producing granulated Ammonium Nitrate in the United States. The starting materials used in the plant are ammonia and nitric acid, which undergo vacuum neutralization to produce ammonium nitrate. It is then evaporated and granulated. The granulated Ammonium Nitrate generated is also known as emulsion grade Ammonium Nitrate.

Details: 400 kta United States-based plant   |   Q1 2024   |   107 pages   From $1,199 USD

The cost analyses presented in the report Ammonium Nitrate E31A target a 400 kta (kilometric tons per annum) United States-based plant. For those interested in cost analyses considering other plant capacities and/or locations, Intratec offers a customized analysis as an optional feature.

Intratec Methodology. Intratec distilled its expertise, gained from more than a decade of supporting companies worldwide in the analysis of commodities markets and process economics, and developed a consistent report development methodology.

The methodology ensures a holistic, coherent, and consistent techno-economic evaluation, guiding the development of a report that allows readers to fully understand a specific process technology for the production of a commodity. In addition to being based on a common methodology, all Intratec reports that approach industrial processes have a common structure, i.e., indexes, tables and charts share similar standards. This ensures that Intratec’s readers know upfront what they will get and, more than that, will be able to compare technologies addressed in different reports.

Our methodology is continuously tested and proven by the many corporations involved with the commodities sector, R&D centers, EPC companies, financial institutions and government agencies that rely on our reports.
