Ethanoic Anhydride
Acetyl Oxide
Acetic Anhydride (a.k.a. Ethanoic Anhydride, Acetyl Oxide, Acetic Oxide) is a colorless liquid with an odor that resembles acetic acid. Figuring among the most produced carboxylic acid anhydrides, Acetic Anhydride is a major organic intermediate with an important role in many chemical reactions, like acetylations, production of other acid anhydrides, hydrolysis to produce acetic acid and many others. It is widely used as a solvent for chemical analyses as well.
The uses and applications of Acetic Anhydride may vary according to its specification. The main forms of Acetic Anhydride are commercial grade (over 98% pure), which is the most marketed grade; and chemically pure (CP) grade with purities up to 99.7%.

Updated Reports Examining Acetic Anhydride Manufacturing Costs

Intratec offers professional, easy-to-understand Commodity Cost of Production reports analyzing the costs of Acetic Anhydride manufacturing processes. Each report describes an industrial plant based on a specific Acetic Anhydride process. The report also presents an independent analysis of the costs of Acetic Anhydride production, encompassing plant capital costs (capex) and plant operating costs (opex). All reports are based on the most recent economic data available (Q2 2024).

Acetic Anhydride Production from Acetic Acid

This report presents the economics of Acetic Anhydride production from acetic acid in the United States via a ketene process. In the process, acetic acid is first dehydrated to ketene using triethylphosphate as catalyst in a cracking furnace. Ketene reacts with acetic acid in a series of scrubbers, producing Acetic Anhydride.

The cost analyses presented in the report Acetic Anhydride E11A target a 120 kta (kilometric tons per annum) United States-based plant. For those interested in cost analyses considering other plant capacities and/or locations, Intratec offers a customized analysis as an optional feature.

Acetic Anhydride Production from Acetic Acid and Acetone

This feasibility study reviews the Acetic Anhydride production from acetone and acetic acid. Initially, acetone is converted to ketene via pyrolysis. Then, the ketene is absorbed in acetic acid to produce acetic anhydride. The economic analysis presented assumes a plant located in the United States.

Intratec Methodology. Intratec distilled its expertise, gained from more than a decade of supporting companies worldwide in the analysis of commodities markets and process economics, and developed a consistent report development methodology.

The methodology ensures a holistic, coherent, and consistent techno-economic evaluation, guiding the development of a report that allows readers to fully understand a specific process technology for the production of a commodity. In addition to being based on a common methodology, all Intratec reports that approach industrial processes have a common structure, i.e., indexes, tables and charts share similar standards. This ensures that Intratec’s readers know upfront what they will get and, more than that, will be able to compare technologies addressed in different reports.

Our methodology is continuously tested and proven by the many corporations involved with the commodities sector, R&D centers, EPC companies, financial institutions and government agencies that rely on our reports.
