2-Ethylhexyl Acrylate (a.k.a. 2-EHA) is an acrylate ester produced on large scale and widely applied as a monomer for polyacrylates. It presents usages in the manufacture of coating materials, adhesives, and impregnating agents. 2-EHA is a colorless liquid with a characteristic odor, insoluble in water, readily polymerized, and due to this, it must be stored with stabilizers in the presence of oxygen. It is manufactured by the esterification reaction of acrylic acid with 2-ethylhexanol, catalyzed by a strong acid, such as methanesulfonic acid.
